Kinesiotaping

Treatment that keeps on working – around the clock.

One tool with many uses

Kinesio Taping is a rehabilitation application of elastic tape that enhances the body’s healing processes, provides support or stability for joints and muscles, and facilitates beneficial patterns of movement. The technique is used with patients across the age spectrum, and finds its primary applications in patients with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Many people have seen Kinesio Taping used by high level athletes during competition, but have little understanding of the actual benefits of use.

How it works

Kinesio Tape is a non-latex elastic tape, with properties which allow it to “lift” the skin, allowing for enhancement of lymphatic drainage, so it is very effective for the acute management of swelling after injury.

When used with stretch, it may be effective as a support for injured joints. Used this way, it is particularly useful in managing joint instability.

Kinesio Taping is also used extensively to facilitate patterns of movement which are difficult for patients to initiate and control themselves.

The tape can be left in place for several days at a time, to allow long term benefits of these features. With literally hundreds of unique application methods, treatment is specific to each patient and their condition – no “one size fits all” management, so our clinicians to be very creative with their treatment.

Applications

At Concorde Therapy Group, Kinesio Tape is used by physical therapy, athletic training and occupational therapy professionals for such conditions as carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, instability, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, patella tracking, and ankle sprains. Our clinicians also use other taping products for their unique properties, such as Dynamic Tape, Rock Tape, and others.
